A note on Ceramics and Food Safety

A selection of ceramics from our current range have recently undergone independent laboratory testing with Eurofins. The lead-acid leaching test is designated 490 Lead - Acid Leach: ICP-MS based on Food (Safety) Regulations 2002. Results indicated very low lead release levels (0.01–0.02 ppm). These results sit well below acceptable limits for serveware.
As with all earthenware, surface condition over time is important. We strongly recommend hand-washing our ceramics as dishwasher detergents can slowly wear down protective glaze over hundreds of cycles.
With age and use, ceramics may develop crazing (fine surface crack patterns in the glaze). Where crazing occurs, the surface may become more absorbent and more difficult to thoroughly clean, particularly if used with food over time. For this reason, crazed ceramics are recommended for decorative use rather than food service.
We remain committed to validating products through laboratory testing.
