Raf Simons is a celebrated menswear designer from Belgium who has his own label and has also directed the fashion houses of Jil Sander and Christian Dior. More recently, Simons has worked in collaboration with the Danish textile company Kvadrat, who have established a reputation for producing high quality fabrics with a range of artists, architects and designers including Verner Panton, David Adjaye, Patricia Urquiola and the Bouroullec brothers.
The inspiration for Simons’ inaugural fabric collection Reflex, was found in the striped upholstery used for Franco Albini’s Seggiovia chair, first showcased at the Milan Triennale in the 1940s. Simons was also influenced by the contemporary artist Daniel Buren who uses stripes in his architectural interventions. This fabric has a 10-centimetre wide stripe, consisting of a bright buttercup yellow base counterpointed with a stippled camel-coloured stripe.
