I Morosi alla Finestra (The Lovers at the Window), 1930 was originally designed by the celebrated Italian architect Gio Ponti as a silk window covering for the portholes of ocean liners. This delightful textile feature two exquisitely embroidered figures standing at wide open shutters. This iconic textile is one of a stable produced by Maharam as part of their Textiles of the 20th century collection. Ponti was one of the leading modernist designers in Italy and is best known for the Pirelli Tower in Milan, the Suuperleggera Chair produced for Cassina in 1957, and as the founder and editor of Domus, a periodical focussed on appraising post-war architecture and design from Italy and Europe and making this new work accessible to an international audience.

Maharam was founded in 1902 as a supplier of theatrical textiles for set and costume design in the 1940s. Since that time it has become known for its high quality textiles for domestic and commercial applications and its collaborations with contemporary artists and designers such as Paul Smith, Scholten and Baijings, Hella Jongerius, John Baldessari, and Konstantin Grcic.
