Clouds is a fabric design by Duncan Grant, dating from 1932. Grant (1885-1978) was a key figure in the group of artists and designers known as Bloomsbury, that included Vanessa Bell, Virginia and Leonard Woolf, Lytton Strachey, Roger Fry, Clive Bell and Maynard Keynes. In 1913 Roger Fry established the Omega workshops, directed by Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant who, along with other artists produced furniture, pottery and textiles for sale. Grant’s work (including his Cloud textile design) is showcased in the home he shared with Bell called Charleston near Firle, Sussex. Grant was a celebrated painter, set, costume and textile/object designer whose work was celebrated in a restrospective exhibition at the Tate Gallery in London in 1975.
