Textile designers Phyllis Barron (1890-1964) and Dorothy Larcher (1882-1952) received accolades for their custom-designed hand-block printed fabrics, produced using natural dyes in workshops in Hampstead and Painswick, England in the 1920s and '30s. Bold Abstract and floral motifs characterise their textile designs. The collaborators earned a number of high-profile commissions, including from Girton College, Cambridge, and Winchester Cathedral, in addition to counting Coco Chanel and the Duke of Westminster among their clients. Many of Barron and Larcher’s printing blocks are now in the collection of the Crafts Study Centre, University for the Creative Arts, which has collaborated with Christopher Farr Cloth to revive a selection of their designs. Their work is also held in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum.
